The Atlanta Defenders football team is a member of the National Public Safety Football League (N.P.S.F.L.).  Our team is comprised entirely of local public safety professionals from around the metropolitan Atlanta area.  We play full-contact football to raise money for legitimate charities.

Our players are not paid professional athletes.  They are YOUR neighborhood Police and Firefighter Officials who care about the community they serve.  Every player is committed to helping our program be successful.

The National Public Safety Football League consists of 24 teams from around the country including NYPD, FDNY, LAPD, Phoenix, Dallas, Orlando, Washington, D.C. and others.  The NPSFL is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Atlanta Defenders joined the NPSFL in 2007 to play their inaugural season in 2008.  Prior to this time, the metro Atlanta area had a public safety football league.  At its height, the league consisted of seven teams representing five different counties.  Following the 2007 season, various teams decided it best to merge together and form one Atlanta team in order to join the National Public Safety Football League.  The Atlanta Defenders, Inc.  was established in 2008 and received Federal designation as a 501(c)(3) charity.  The goal of the organization is to allow public safety officials the opportunity to give more of themselves by playing competitive football in order to raise money for charity.  As a member of the National Public Safety Football League, the team travels the country at the players’ expense, to play other public safety teams.

2009 SEASON CHARITIES



                     

Safe Kids Georgia is dedicated solely to preventing unintentional childhood injury.  Accidents kill one million children each year around the world and permanently disable many more.  And almost all of the injuries are preventable.  More than 450 coalitions in 16 countries bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families.

Safe Kids Georgia promotes changes in attitudes, behaviors, laws and the environment to prevent accidental injury to children.  In the United States, Safe Kids partnerships have contributed to a 45 percent reduction in the child fatality rate from accidental injury - saving an estimated 38,000 children's lives. 

The Atlanta Defenders are proud to have formed a partnership with Safe Kids Georgia, and we have selected them as our 2009 charity.  Together we will continue our mission of Defending the Children!

Gold Shield of Atlanta was established for the express purpose of assisting the surviving spouses and dependent children of law enforcement officers or firefighters who have been killed or incapacitated in the line of duty.  They provide early financial assistance, act as a receiving agency for donations, provide personal and emotional support, assistance and advocacy to meet the needs of officers, firefighters, and/or their surviving family members.  In addition, Gold Shield helps by supplementing college education and vocational training.

The Atlanta Defenders support the Gold Shield of Atlanta and an additional donation will be made to their organization.
